WMS MissionWinfield Middle School is committed to continuous school improvement from year to year. The staff at Winfield Middle School has established the following goals for the 2010-2011 school year as part of our quest to provide a quality education for all students.
Middle School kids raise $1133 for H4HThe Theme students of Winfield Middle School raised $1133 for the new Habitat for Humanity home. On April 25, these students held an annual Potato Bar in their classroom at Winfield Middle School. The potatoes were donated by Kathryn's Restaurant. All proceeds were matched by the Legacy Foundation. Casa Trivia NightWinfield Middle School students participated in the CASA Trivia competition April 25. The "Underdogs" raised $140.00 for CASA. Great work team! Easter Egg HuntOn Thursday, March 29, Winfield Middle School students participated in an Easter Egg Hunt. Students bought tickets to attend and were able to purchase clues at the hunt. The gold, silver, and bronze egg were worth money. Half of the proceeds went to 17 month old Hoyt Lee Overby who is undergoing chemotherapy for a brain tumor. The other half will be given to a seventh grade student at Ark City Middle School who is being treated for Leukemia. This event was sponsored by WMS Builders Club and Student Council. Students raise money for BB/BS bowlingTwenty Middle School students raised $805.39 for Big Brothers Big Sisters bowling on Sunday! They are the following: Maggie Tapia, Jasmine Nichols, Allison Willis, Ryan Pugmire, Jed Delozier, James Serfoss, Emma Hottinger, Tysha Henning, Ondrea Seahorn, Jenna Staley, Sydney Fox, Abbie Bertholf, Mallory Meyer, Jenna Groene, Megan Powell, Grady Priest, Alex Randall, Marisol Rameriz, Shania Griffith. Great job students we are proud of you! Woodburn wins county spelling beeThe Cowley County Spelling Bee was held Wednesday at Arkansas City Middle School. Eighth-graders made a clean sweep as students from Arkansas City, Central of Burden, Dexter, and Winfield participated. Lilya Woodburn, an eighth-grader from WMS, took first place and will go on to compete at the state bee. Sandie Scott, Central of Burden eighth-grader, placed second. Andy Marshall and Kaya Miers, both eighth-graders at Arkansas City Middle School, took third and fourth place respectively. Habitat 4 HumanityOn January 26th, Winfield Middle School students served over 500 people at the Habitat for Humanity soup supper. The event raised over $3,000 for the new Habitat home. Twelve kids worked hard for four straight hours, staying afterwards to clean up. WMS ACHIEVES STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE AWARDWinfield Public Schools is very proud to announce that Winfield Middle School earned the Kansas State Department of Education Standard of Excellence Award. These awards recognize exceptional performance by students on the 2010-2011 Kansas State Assessment. This speaks very highly of the commitment by students and staff in excelling in the area of academic excellence. The ability to achieve at this high level while facing the challenge of reaching higher NCLB target scores in reading and math, working with an increasing number of At-Risk children, and enduring severe budget cuts is a great accomplishment for the entire school district and Winfield community.
